From Bedwetting To Asthma: The Benefits Of Chiropractic Care In Children

As parents, we constantly seek the best for our children, from nutritious meals to engaging activities that promote their growth and development. One often overlooked aspect of children’s health is chiropractic care. While many people associate chiropractic adjustments with adults, the benefits of chiropractic care in children can be significant.

This story always comes to mind when a patient asks me about kids and chiropractic care.

We had a little boy start to care because his mom heard that chiropractic care can help with bedwetting issues. This little man was 9 years old and still wetting the bed multiple times a week. He started care at Owl and within a few weeks was no longer wetting the bed. What I did not know at the time or see was the repercussions this little kid was dealing with due to his bedwetting. He did not go to sleepover birthday parties, or join Cub Scouts. His mental health completely changed after he stopped wetting the bed and as a mom, you have no idea how that makes me feel now.

On a personal note, seeing children and babies getting adjusted made me want to become a chiropractor myself.

It always amazes me when parents are nervous about getting their child adjusted and I understand why. Chiropractors have done a poor job educating the public about what we do and why we do it. What also amazes me is parents not being afraid of processed food, sugar, ingredient lists they can not read, seed oils, and screen time… however, seeing a doctor who has spent 6-8 years in higher education is scary.

Does that make sense?

Imagine a world where children’s tiny delicate systems were not bombarded with chemicals, toxins, and just plain crappy processed foods. Imagine a world where a doctor worked with the body to help make it stronger. Help make that body heal better? This is why I love being a chiropractor. I love working in healthcare instead of sick care. This approach to healthcare, chiropractic care is particularly beneficial for children, whose bodies are still developing and adapting to their environment.

Children experience rapid growth, multiple falls, and sport-related injuries, which can lead to misalignments in the spine also known as subluxations. Think about a child learning to walk. How many times do they fall on their bottoms or forward, catching themselves with their hands? Regular chiropractic care can help maintain proper alignment, reduce unwanted stress on the spine, and support healthy growth and development. By reducing subluxations in the spine we are allowing the nervous system to function optimally which enhances overall health. The healthier a child's nervous system is the healthier they are. I want that for all my patients, especially children.
