As Owl Chiropractic celebrates a decade in business, it’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown. A decade ago, we embarked on a journey fueled by determination, and a vision to make a difference in our community. Today, we want to take a moment to reflect on the milestones we’ve achieved, and the lessons we’ve learned, and share our exciting plans for the future.
The past ten years have been nothing short of transformative. When we first opened our doors, we were filled with enthusiasm and nervousness about the unknown. Scott and I faced challenges that tested our determination. However, like most things in life, each obstacle taught us invaluable lessons and the importance of staying true to our core values. Having the love and support from our families is what made it all possible and the continued love and support from all our patients and the community keeps us going.
The hunt for the physical space for Owl, not yet named til after we found our current space, started in 2014. After graduating from chiropractic school in December 2013, Dr. Scott finished his internship and was an associate in Wisconsin, while I came back to work at Madeira Chiropractic in Hershey, Pa. Scott and I kept in contact and did the long-distance thing with plans to open our own practice ASAP. We looked to open a practice in Colorado, Arizona, and Michigan but ultimately decided on Lancaster. My family was here and Lancaster is very small business friendly. So here we are!
We looked at so many properties, just ask Corinn our agent from PPM Realty. To this day Corinn is one of my closest friends and a huge part of our success. While in WI Scott would find properties that fit what we were looking for and email them to me. My family and I would then spend the next few days scoping out the properties and picking out the ones we wanted to see with an agent. This process went on for months until we found our current location in Julyish 2014. An interesting fact, the first date / first time Scott visited me in Lancaster, we ate at Lancaster Brewing Company. We had no idea our office would be across the street.
While looking for properties and working for Madeira Chiropractic, I was also interviewing at banks looking for small business loans. We would like to thank the Community First Fund for believing in us and taking a chance on Owl Chiropractic.
We closed on the property in October. That next day, Scott drove down from WI and my dad retired. Scott moved in with me (in my childhood home with my family) where he and my dad went to work renovating the property so we could open in March. I have detailed memories of them planning wood in my driveway on Thanksgiving morning. We worked round the clock and maximized our budget.
I would like to thank Dana Clark from Tippetts Weaver Architects who help finalized our plans and bring them up to code, but the biggest thanks have to go to my dad, Joe who with Dr. Scott worked and worked and worked to get this place open! I also want to thank my mom, Carol, and Debbo for being our first employees. They believed in us and worked for free so we could get our dream started.
I would also like to thank Dr. John Madeira and Madeira Chiropractic, A lot of our practice/business success is the result of his coaching and guidance. To this day, we remain great friends and colleagues.
Since opening our doors in March, we have had multiple interns and students, 3 different X-ray machines, multiple different tables and computers….. But the miracles of chiropractic are what makes it all worth it. Watching a patient get their life back, helping a family with fertility issues, colicky babies, bed wetting, and migraines, is beyond humbling and amazing. We can not wait to see what the next 10 years hold for Owl Chiropractic and what amazing patients we'll get to help.
Looking ahead to the next 10 years, we need to thank our team, Team Owl, they are the best. We are able to be our best because they are the best. They are always our biggest cheerleaders. No idea, big or small is dismissed and no miracle is underplayed, our team gets the big picture and our purpose. Because of all their hard work, we are able to serve more people and help give patients the power of health.
We have fun things planned for 2025 so make sure to keep up with us!!!!
The OWL team runs a wonderful practice! I have benefitted substantially from their care and expertise. Well done!
